MDR have been proactively involved in a number of community initiatives and have forged strong relationships as a result.
As part of Team London Bridge and their business initiative forum we provided surveys, analytical advice, judging assistance and general comments on the award winning garden at Gibbons Rent. This highly acclaimed pocket park has provided an oasis at the rear of Tooley Street and MDR were proud to be part of the delivery team. With Team London Bridge and The Architecture Foundation, we hosted the tenant consultation and as part of the Festival of Architecture the official launch of Gibbons Rents. This event attracted over 400 people and the ‘pocket park’ continues to draw visitors daily. MDR’s involvement is continuing as we are now part of the judging panel to oversee the designs for Gibbons Rents’ Library.
MDR were proud partners in the installation of community art at our Childers Street site in Deptford. MDR ran work shops and community consultations over a 6 month period. Working with ASRA, the staff and pupils at Grinling Gibbons primary school and Buxtons we collaboratively produced art work for the commercial hoarding, which was well received by the local community and stakeholders.
MDR have been actively involved with a number of community groups and organisations in London, focussing on the integration of employment generating hubs and work spaces into sites.
Further community initiatives have also included the Green Sky Thinking event, where MDR in collaboration with Team London Bridge hosted an event looking at building regulations, the public realm and innovative green solutions. The presentations certainly provided an interesting and useful insight into the sustainable built environment. With the ever-increasing awareness of the benefits of sustainable building design and imposing government regulations, it is essential to keep up to date on all things green in order to meet the increasing expectations of all stakeholders.
